The House has passed a resolution standing with Israel in the aftermath of attacks by Hamas

The House overwhelmingly passed a resolution standing with Israel by a 412-10 vote, marking the first action by the chamber since Speaker Mike Johnson won the gavel.

Nine progressive Democrats voted nay:

• Andre Carson
• Cori Bush
• Al Green
• Summer Lee
• Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
• Ilhan Omar
• Delia Ramirez
• Rashida Talib

They were joined by one Republican, Thomas Massie.
Six Democrats voted present on the resolution: Greg Casar, Joaquin Castro, Nydia Velázquez, Ayanna Pressley, Chuy Garcia and Pramila Jayapal.

The bipartisan resolution states the U.S. “stands with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists,” affirms Israel’s right to self-defense and calls for an immediate halt of violence, among other provisions.

“The country demands strong leadership of this body and we must not waver,” Johnson said upon seizing the speaker’s gavel. “We’re overdue in getting that done.”

House Foreign Affairs ranking member Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) added: “There is no daylight between us when it comes to us standing with our friend, our ally, the state of Israel.”
