North Korea Changes Constitution, Will Launch Nuclear Strike if Kim Jong Un Is Killed or Incapacitated by a Foreign Attack – As Country Launches Nuclear-Capable Warship

Considered in the west as a rogue state, North Korea is working to avoid the fate or Iran and so many other countries.

Pyongyang has made changes to its constitution to mandate that military must launch ‘a retaliatory nuclear strike’ if leader Kim Jong Un is assassinated or else incapacitated by a foreign adversary.

This is reportedly a reaction to the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and top Iranian leadership at the start of the joint US-Israeli strikes against the regime in Tehran.

Pyongyang has amended its Constitution so that nuclear weapons would be used automatically if the country’s leadership is destroyed or loses control over the military.

The Telegraph reported:

“The revision was adopted at the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly, which opened on March 22 in Pyongyang. It was made public on Thursday in a briefing to senior members of the South Korean government by its National Intelligence Service (NIS).

According to the NIS briefing, Kim has command of the North’s nuclear forces, but the changes codify procedures for retaliatory attacks in the event that he is incapacitated or killed.

The revised Article 3 of the nuclear policy law states: ‘If the command-and-control system over the state’s nuclear forces is placed in danger by hostile forces’ attacks … a nuclear strike shall be launched automatically and immediately’.”

And these constitutional changes are not just for show, as earlier this week, Kim inspected his country’s first nuclear-capable destroyer warship.

This comes after North Korea said it was NOT bound by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The Wall Street Journal reported:

“The Choe Hyon, named after a celebrated North Korean guerrilla fighter, is capable of carrying nuclear-tipped missiles and will be deployed in June, according to a Friday statement in state media.

The new warship is part of Kim’s bid to modernize his Soviet-era naval forces and establish nuclear strike capabilities at sea—potentially presenting a new threat to U.S. and South Korean defenses.

[…] Kim wants to overcome the limits of a nuclear force that is purely land-based. The U.S. and South Korea possess superior surveillance capabilities that could allow them to strike North Korea’s land-based assets before nuclear-tipped missiles are fired. Deploying nuclear capabilities at sea would make it harder for Washington and its allies to track all of North Korea’s firing bases, weapons experts say.”
