Letter From Would-Be Trump Assassin Ryan Routh Outlines His Motivations, Hoped to Save America From a ‘Dictator’
The man who planned to assassinate Donald Trump outside his Mar-a-Lago resort has revealed his intentions behind the heinous act.
Ryan Routh, who is currently being held at the federal detention center in Miami on charges of attempting to kill the then-presidential frontrunner, wrote a letter to Politico that they have since verified as his own.
According to the letter, Routh did not identify as a Democrat and wanted to undermine the two-party system that currently dominates American politics.
“I am unclear how we allowed ourselves to fall into just a two-party system, but it infuriates me,” he wrote. “My entire life has been plagued by D’s and R’s.”
“It seems not long ago there was a push for the libertarian party and now a green party and maybe Truth party. But for some reason our leaders have not allowed any other party [to] be recognized in any race.”
“We all wonder why we end up with such flawed candidates, when our system is designed to exclude most everyone.”
One of his primary concerns was actually the national debt, which continues to soar at unsustainable levels. He argued that with “our national debt swallowing us whole and bankruptcy imminent we may as well fix this problem balls out.”
However, Routh was still absolutely a Trump hater. He wrote that in the event of a Trump victory, the country should “remove the power of our military by the President and place it with Congress before January.”
“We must limit all Presidential power before Trump seizes our country,” he wrote, referring to him as a “dictator” in waiting.
In the event of a Trump defeat, he urged people “to encircle the capitol” to prevent a repeat of the January 6th protests and discussed the risk of a "civil war" breaking out nationwide.
Routh was also riled up about Trump's management of the Middle East, a region he said he had "destroyed."
He was particularly upset about his decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, known as JCPOA, and said Trump was responsible “for all those lives lost and all the destruction” ever since.
“We must demand that Israel stop their attacks and demand that all parties come to the table and find common ground," he wrote.“My fellowmen, please demand peace."
Politico did not publish the letter in full but pointed out that it was incoherent and lacked any serious ideological motivation.
"In the end, we can’t know what may have driven an agitated mind to attempt a heinous act," the outlet noted.
"You don’t have to believe Routh based on what he put in his letter. He’s not exactly a reliable narrator. But you also don’t have to take the word of partisan politicians. The only thing for certain in this polarized climate is that the debate isn’t going away.
Routh has pleaded not guilty to all charges and will stand trial in February.
