Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed a judicially authorized search warrant early Monday morning at the Washington, DC-area home of radical Minnesota Democrat and Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation into her immigration paperwork.
The pre-dawn operation, first reported exclusively by Fox News Digital, began around 6 a.m. Agents in HSI jackets were observed outside the residence, and footage showed them carrying boxes of evidence from the home over the course of several hours.
A Department of Justice spokesperson confirmed: “Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation.”
The DOJ later specified the probe is criminal in nature. Sources told Fox the investigation focuses on fraud related to immigration documents filled out by Omar’s late father when she was a child.
According to Article III Project founder and former Senate Judiciary Committee counsel Mike Davis, citing DC U.S. District Court’s public website, Magistrate Judge Matthew J. Sharbaugh was the magistrate on criminal duty from October 3 through October 16, 2026, the period covering the raid. He therefore would have signed the search warrant for Omar’s home.
Judge Sharbaugh was appointed as a U.S. Magistrate Judge in October 2024, near the end of the Biden administration, and was selected by the Democrat-controlled DC federal court.
He previously twice clerked for Obama-appointed Judge Robert L. Wilkin, first on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and then on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He was sworn in by Chief Judge James E. Boasberg.

In Steve Bannon’s War Room, Mike Davis explained the gravity of the warrant. “What a search warrant of a home means is that an Article III judge has determined that there’s probable cause that evidence of a crime will be found in that home,” Davis said.
“You have a federal judge in DC signing off on this search warrant at Ilhan Omar’s home. It was an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice. … There’s at least a federal judge [who] at least thinks it’s more likely than not that there’s evidence of a federal crime inside that home. … Judges do not do home raids lightly.”
Davis noted the significance of the venue: the D.C. District Court has long been stacked with Obama- and Biden-appointed judges who have been among the most aggressive in anti-Trump rulings. Obtaining a home-search warrant there is no small feat.
He added that the case appears tied to potential immigration fraud surrounding how Omar arrived in the country and became a naturalized citizen (she arrived as a refugee in 1995 at age 12 and naturalized in 2000 at 17). Successful proof of fraud could lead to criminal charges or a denaturalization process, subject to the statute of limitations.
Davis also flagged longstanding issues with Omar’s financial disclosures, one year reporting assets in the tens of millions, the next corrected to far lower figures (in some analyses approaching negative net worth) with little clear explanation, and the persistent allegations that she married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in a 2009 scheme to facilitate his immigration status.
“These are all allegations. Nothing has been proved,” Davis cautioned. “This is simply the first step when you do a home raid like this.”
