Flavio Bolsonaro Takes Lead Over Communist Lula in Brazilian Presidential Election as Election Time Is Extended by Lula Justice

The Brazilian Presidential Election is being held today in one of Latin America’s few remaining leftist controlled countries.

Socialist Lula da Silva is locked in a tight race with Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former persecuted president Jair Bolsonaro.

Earlier today, President Lula da Silva’s “personal attorney” and Supreme Court Justice Christiano Justin extended election hours after complaints by Lula!

They call Justice Cristiano Zanin “Lula’s justice” (or “ministro do Lula”) because he was Lula’s personal lawyer who successfully defended him in the Lava Jato cases, and Lula later appointed him to Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF).

Unbelievable!

Ballot counting in Brazil’s 2026 presidential runoff (Lula vs. Flávio Bolsonaro) was set to begin at 17:00 Brasília time (5 p.m. local) on October 25, when polls were originally scheduled to close.⁠Oglobo.globo

Brazil uses a unified Brasília schedule for elections, electronic voting machines transmit results quickly, and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) typically starts publishing partial totals right after closing.

A last-minute Supreme Court decision by Justice Cristiano Zanin extended voting by two hours (until 19:00 Brasília) over transport and weather issues.

This caused the TSE to pause the already-started count (which had reached about 0.25% of sections with early numbers favoring Lula) and resume receipt of ballot records, totaling, and public results after 19:00 Brasília.

Bolsonaro leads the race with nearly 19 million votes reporting.
