A South Korean Halloween celebration has turned deadly in the capital city of Seoul as dozens of revelers collapsed from cardiac arrest and while others have reportedly been crushed during a stampede by the tens of thousands of participants. The number of fatalities are unknown at this time but one attendee claims an on-site police officer has suggested at least 81 deaths so far.

Update: At least 59 people have died and 150 more are injured, according to officials, CBS News reported.


The images coming from the tragedy are heartbreaking as bystanders attempt CPR.

A massive stampede has left dozens in cardiac arrest after being crushed by a large crowd pushing forward on a narrow street during Halloween festivities in the South Korean capital Seoul.

An official from the National Fire Agency said around 100 people were injured during the deadly crowd surge on Saturday night in the Itaewon leisure district of Seoul.

Reports suggest as many as 50 could have gone into cardiac arrest with multiple others feared to have died.
