CBP Officers Seize Over $900K in Methamphetamine at World Trade Bridge

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers assigned to the World Trade Bridge seized methamphetamine that totaled over $900,000 in street value on Monday.

The World Trade International Bridge goes from Laredo, Texas, to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas — connecting the United States and Mexico over the Rio Grande.

The seizure took place when a CBP officer referred a 2018 Kenworth tractor-trailer manifesting a commercial shipment of furniture for secondary inspection.

After the truck went through a canine and non-intrusive inspection system exam, CBP officers discovered a total of 98.01 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside.

According to a press release from CBP, the narcotics had a street value of $901,293.

The drugs were seized by CBP and Homeland Security Investigations special agents are now investigating.

“Officers at the World Trade Bridge continue to excel in their targeting strategies, remaining vigilant and on the forefront of border security operations,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.

Earlier this month, CBP officers found more than $3 million worth of meth hidden in a shipment of carrots.

“Border Patrol officers said they found the concealed drugs as a 43-year-old truck driver tried to enter the country from Mexico. The driver had a valid border crossing card and was flagged for further examination, along with the truck and shipment,” CBS 7 reported at the time.

Officers at the scene found a total of 628 packages of the drugs hidden among the produce.

“These types of narcotic interceptions play a critical role in our border security mission,” Otay Mesa Port Director Rosa Hernandez said. “Our officers will continue to remain vigilant, working hard to detect these smuggling techniques.”
