President Trump Was in Medinah Sunday as Illinois Patriots Rallied “Behind Enemy Lines” — While Left-Wing Groups Greeted Him With Open-Borders Chaos

MEDINAH, Ill. — President Donald J. Trump was at Medinah Country Club on Sunday for the final round of the Presidents Cup, serving as honorary chairman of one of golf’s biggest team events.

While Team USA rallied on Course No. 3, supporters lined Lake Street and Medinah Road to welcome the president and deliver an America First, pro-ICE message Chicago’s left tried to shout down.

Trump accepted the honorary chairman role last month at the PGA Tour’s request.

“At the request of the PGA Tour, and its Great new Commissioner, Brian Rolapp, it is my Honor to accept being the Honorary Chairman of the upcoming Presidents Cup, which will take place at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago,” Trump posted at the time. “Both teams are ‘loaded’ with Talent. I look forward to being there and greeting all of these fantastic athletes on both teams! See you in Chicago!”

Sunday was his fifth major golf event this year and the first at a course he does not own. In 2017 at Liberty National, Trump became the first sitting president to present the Presidents Cup trophy after the U.S. won.

Last year he became the first sitting president to attend a Ryder Cup. Joe Biden was honorary chairman in 2022 and did not show up.

Air Force One flew over the club Sunday morning. Trump kept his first-tee remarks short after PGA Tour Commissioner Brian Rolapp introduced him.

“These people want to see golf. They don’t want to hear speeches,” he told the crowd. “I’ll only say this. Our country is doing great, better than ever before.”

USA chants drowned out scattered boos. He greeted players from both teams, watched the opening tee shots, stayed through the closing ceremony, and presented the trophy after the Americans completed the comeback.

Patriots Were There — On the Public Sidewalk

Organizer Terry Newsome of Behind Enemy Lines hosted the “Welcome Trump” rally Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lake Street (U.S. 20) and Medinah Road in Bloomingdale, on public sidewalk / right-of-way.

Organizers kept supporters off country-club property, did not block traffic, and stressed respect for residents and businesses.

What made Sunday different in deep-blue northern Illinois: Newsome said he finally pulled together significant co-sponsorship from Illinois GOP county and township leadership — something that historically has not happened in a region long dominated by a far-left Democratic machine that extends well beyond Cook County.

Listed on the rally materials: DuPage County Republicans, plus Milton, Winfield, Downers Grove, York, Wayne, Addison, Bloomingdale, and Lisle Township Republican organizations, Illinois Freedom Alliance, Concerned Parents / Protest the Protestors, and Trump Illinois MAGA Official.

Newsome, a south-side Chicago native who hosts Behind Enemy Lines, has spent years calling out weak Illinois GOP leadership and the state’s sanctuary politics. Organizers said new leadership and Trump’s America First agenda were why more local GOP chairs were willing to stand with him in public this time.

Outside the gates, that showed. Newsome told CBS Chicago the point was to “give a voice and say, ‘Not everybody in Illinois is a radical leftist.’” DuPage County Republican Chairman Kevin Coyne called the visit a historic chance to see a figure “history will be studying and debating for the rest of time” and said Trump “brings a great deal of excitement wherever he goes.”

Pro-ICE — And a Record the Left Can’t Erase

The rally was explicitly pro-Trump, pro-ICE, and America First. That was not a talking point Newsome borrowed for one Sunday.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Newsome brought then-incoming Border Czar Tom Homan to Chicago for closed-door meetings with Democrats, union members, and law enforcement — including Ald. Raymond Lopez — who wanted ICE in the city to remove criminal illegal aliens.

Newsome also hosted Homan on Behind Enemy Lines and spent the peak of the invasion on the ground documenting and confronting Tren de Aragua in the Chicago suburbs.

That is why organizers said Sunday was not just a welcome rally. They wanted a public voice for Americans killed by people who had no legal right to be here — because Illinois Democrats and their street groups routinely put illegal aliens ahead of citizens.

Say Their Names

SAY THEIR NAMES: Katie Abraham. Chloe Polzin. Sheridan Gorman. Megan Bos. Michael Clayton. Gail Clayton.

Sunday at the Medinah Presidents Cup, anti-ICE, open-borders protesters gathered against President Trump. Many of them love to chant “Say their names” for criminal illegals and rioters killed while attacking law enforcement.

They stayed silent about the innocent American citizens murdered by people who had no legal right to be in this country.

The faces on the rally graphic are those Americans who were killed in Illinois by illegals. Katie Abraham, 20, and Chloe Polzin, 21, were killed in a hit-and-run.

The driver, Guatemalan national Julio Cucul-Bol, had been drinking and was later sentenced to 30 years. Sheridan Gorman, 18, a Loyola University Chicago freshman, was shot and killed on the lakefront.

Authorities charged Venezuelan illegal immigrant Jose Medina-Medina. Her mother later told Congress Chicago’s mayor was joking about an “Abolish ICE” truck while the family was claiming their daughter’s body.

Megan Bos’s mother has publicly tied her daughter’s death and the suspect’s quick release to Illinois’ no-cash-bail SAFE-T Act and an illegal immigrant defendant.

Michael Clayton, 71, and Gail Clayton, 66, were killed in a head-on crash; the other driver was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI.

Organizers’ message did not change because the left showed up across the street: demand the same standard. Say their names. This is America.

Newsome and the co-sponsors said the left is more concerned about illegals than about our own citizens. That is why they believed the victims needed a voice in the face of leftist organizations that overlook innocent Americans.

The Left’s Plan: “Kick Trump Out of Illinois,” Abolish ICE, and Pretend No One Is Illegal

While patriots welcomed the president, a roster of far-left and open-borders groups converged on the same intersection.

Local reports described several hundred people on both sides of the street, with tension when demonstrators crossed toward the other side. Police monitored the area.

Inside the ropes, fans went through TSA-style screening; SWAT trucks sat on fairways around the first tee.

The Daily Herald had reported Illinois Handmaids and Team Bluepage organizer Jax West of Lisle was betting on Sunday and said they would gather at Lake and Medinah because “I just can’t let him come here and not get pushback.”

Illinois Veterans for Change’s Jesse Rojo said his group would focus Saturday on opposing what he called the “Iranian War.”

Then there is Cristobal Cavazos, executive director of Immigrant Solidarity DuPage and co-founder of Casa DuPage Workers Center. Cavazos told the Herald his message for Trump’s visit was “Kick Trump out of Illinois,” plus impeachment and “legalization for all.”

His group’s own press materials branded the president a “gangster,” “war criminal,” and “would-be dictator,” and called for abolition of ICE and CBP, an end to detention and deportation, and legalization for everybody here illegally.

That is not liberal immigration reform. That is the “no human is illegal / nobody is illegal” line: erase the border, empty the detention centers, and treat every illegal presence as a civil right.

Cavazos is not hiding the ideology. He has written for Socialist Action and been identified by that paper as a member of its Political Committee.

In his own bylined pieces he has called readers to “struggle towards socialism,” “Join us in Socialist Action in building a mass revolutionary party to defeat ICE,” and treat “the right to asylum and to live where we please” as a fundamental right — open borders in plain English.

He leads “People’s Patrols” that chase ICE around the western suburbs, hand out know-your-rights cards, and build what he calls “networks of resistance” against federal immigration law. On social media he has posted “¡Viva Cuba!” while defending the communist regime.

Newsome has faced him in person. Last year he confronted Cavazos outside a hotel where out-of-state ICE agents were staying. The video showed the same campaign Sunday’s protesters brought to Medinah: track federal officers, treat ICE as the enemy, and drown out anyone who says American citizens come first.

So when Cavazos talks about “legalization for all,” he means it. No interior enforcement. No ICE. No distinction between citizen and illegal alien. Organizers said that is exactly why the Medinah sidewalk had to belong to Americans who still believe Illinois victims have names.

Allison Galvan, executive director of Grito Latino Addison Community Center, put the same line on camera Sunday: the message was that “Trump is not welcome here in Illinois, in Chicago, in Medinah, in Addison — all of our neighborhoods.”

Other groups organizers said were in the mix included Casa DuPage, Grito Latino, PASO, Indivisible DuPage, Des Plaines and Elk Grove Indivisible chapters, BluePage, Friends Who March, Illinois Handmaids, and Refuse Fascism.

Team BluePage and Visibility Brigade–Kane helped organize Sunday’s larger protest turnout after smaller actions earlier in the week. Bloomingdale Township Democratic Chair Terrell Barnes told the Herald that Democrats would also hit “expensive groceries, gas and housing.”

In other words: a Marxist open-borders organizer, Handmaids in costume, and “abolish ICE” networks treated a sitting U.S. president’s appearance at an American team golf championship as an occupation — while staying silent about Katie, Chloe, Sheridan, Megan, Michael, and Gail.

The Golf and the Contrast

The Presidents Cup ran Thursday through Sunday at Medinah. U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker’s squad, led by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, entered Sunday trailing 10½–7½.

The Americans then delivered the largest final-day singles rout in Presidents Cup history, 9½–2½, and won 17–13 — an 11th straight title.

Internationals have still never won on U.S. soil. Local officials projected about $175 million in economic impact and roughly 200,000 spectators. Medinah became the first club to have hosted the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, Ryder Cup, and Presidents Cup.

Trump used the first-tee stage, not a long speech. Secret Service coordinated with DuPage County, Illinois State Police, and the PGA Tour.

After the last putts dropped, he handed the trophy to Snedeker. The captain credited the president’s visit for the energy. Leaving town, Trump called it “a tremendous victory, just a great comeback.”

Inside the ropes: elite golf and Team USA. Outside the ropes: Illinois patriots standing with the president, with ICE, and with the American dead the left still refuses to name.
