(VIDEO) President Trump Signs Historic Greenland Deal with Prime Ministers of Denmark and Greenland

President Trump participated in an event with the Prime Ministers of Denmark and Greenland, signing a historic deal that gives the United States “permanent control over security” in Greenland, Trump said. 

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Trump announced the deal after over a year of expressing a desire to purchase the Arctic island for defense purposes since he returned to office in January 2025.

“There will be NO COST to the United States!” Trump said, noting that “from now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval.”

During his meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, President Trump, joined by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, signed the agreement.

During brief remarks before the signing, President Trump, Frederiksen, and Nielsen spoke about the agreement and future of cooperation to secure the Arctic.

"we're going to have a tremendous relationship, a secure relationship, and we look forward to it. We'll be working very hard and very much in conjunction with each other, and it's just a real honor to be here. This was long in the making," Trump said. "Almost every president at least mentioned it, but most of them just mentioned it. Some really wanted to make a deal and never got done. But we're getting it done, so this is tremendous for Europe and for the United States, for everybody, and for Greenland. It's going to be incredible."

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen highlighted the United States' record, noting that we "defended the free world, created prosperity and progress, peace and freedom," describing the deal as "good for the United States," "good for Greenland, for Denmark, for the NATO allies, and therefore also good for Europe." She added, "we are strengthening our common security, boosting our common deterrence, showing our adversaries who we are, and we are doing it together," thanking the President for the agreement and securing the world.

Greenland's Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, said it's an "important day for our shared security," noting that the agreement "should put to rest any doubt today and in the future about where Greenland's loyalty lies."

"We are, have been, and will remain a steadfast friend of the United States and a part of the Western alliance. Your security is our security, and our security is your security," he said, describing it as a "win-win-win agreement."
