Eric Barber’s story is one of grit, perseverance, and a refusal to give up—even when the odds are stacked against him. A former city councilman and a January 6th political prisoner, Eric has endured the destruction of his career, the loss of his freedom, and relentless persecution. Yet through it all, he has held on to the one passion that has kept him grounded: stock car racing.

Eric has also remained active in his local community and politics. He was elected to the Parkersburg City Council in 2016 and quickly made headlines for standing firm in his Christian faith—reciting the Lord’s Prayer before meetings, which led to a lawsuit from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. In 2018, he worked with FAMM to lobby for the First Step Act in D.C., a law that would later benefit him personally as a federal prisoner.
“Racing is my therapy, when I’m behind the wheel, I can forget, at least for a while, about all the attacks and the stigma of being a J6er. But without a sponsor, I can’t keep going much longer. Every car on pit lane has a sponsor but mine.”
As the Indy 500 is held today, remember Eric Barber in your thoughts.
